Samuel Yellin Forged Kings Head Detail

Happy November everyone!

As always we are busy wrapping up some architectural projects before the end of the year. But that didn’t prevent me from sneaking into the shop one evening recently and just having a few hours of fun at the forge. What did I make?

Well, for almost my entire career I’ve been inspired by the work of Samuel Yellin, and recently we were contacted to do some work on a Yellin restoration. This relit the fire and had me digging into my library archives to once again research his work. Much has been writen already about his history, and I won’t digress to rewrite it, other than to say he was well known for the Gothic Revival style.

In many of those projects he wove fanciful animal and creature heads into the work. This added an interesting and fanciful detail to the ironwork and helped breathe life into the work.

My favorite Yellin head that I plan to recreate in the future.

So as I lit the forge fire the other night I began to dream up a Yellin style kings head. I was able to capture much of the creation and publish it as a video. If you would like to “join” me in the shop please view it here.

And as always, if you are as passionate about awesome details as we are, please contact us for help with your architectural project. Thank you again for visiting our website and have a fantastic finish to 2022!

Sincerly,

Matthew Harris
