Chemours Chemical Engineering Company contracted us to create the signature sculpture for their new Discovery Hub. Erich Parker, SVP and Chief Brand officer, designed the model molecule form which we then took and slightly angled to achieve a more dramatic presentation. Before fabrication began, extensive engineering was performed on the steel sub structure of the sculpture as well as the main molecule framework. Matthew Harris worked closely with a team of engineers to provide a practical and cost effective solution to fabricate and install this project. A brilliant burnt orange spray chrome finish, accomplished by Pete Yarrington of Elmer, New Jersey, established a reflective surface which engages the viewer. The mirror like finish is intentional as it reflects the creativity of the chemists, scientists, and engineers who are critical to the research and innovation within the Discovery Hub.

Weighing in at 3500 pounds, we fabricated the 8’ by 13’ by 40'“ tall steel sub base. McGrory Inc. cladded our structure with black galaxy granite. Two circular holes were left in the base top for the installation of the tube supports connected to the sculpture. American Metal Spinning Company from Long Island, New York did and excellent job spinning the aluminum spheres. All connecting tubes were fabricated by us. Constructing the sculpture required precise placement of the spheres and tubes which Matt Harris oversaw himself.

After retrieving the expertly coated sculpture from the Yarrington business, we coordinated with the building contractor and Collett and Sons Industrial Services for the installation of the piece. The sculpture rests in front of the new Chemours Discovery Hub located in the Star Campus on Discovery Blvd. in Newark, Delaware
